INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
FOR VIOLIN AND PIANO

ArsClassica International Competition is open to young talented musicians from all over the world. The goal of the competition is to help young exceptional musicians to grow their early career by giving them the opportunity to express their musical potential through professional audio and video recordings as well as to create an artistic partnership between young musicians with different experiences and from different parts of the world.

RULES & REGULATIONS OF ARSCLASSICA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

1. ORGANIZATION

The competition takes place entirely online.

2. CONTESTANTS

​

ArsClassica International Competition is open to young instrumentalists of all nationalities and countries aged 18 to 35. 

3. JURY

​

The Jury of ArsClassica International Competition is composed by ArsClassica's founders and the most distinguished members represented by internationally renowned musicians and performing artists. The Jury is chaired by ArsClassica and VideoClassica founders, classical music audio and video producers:

  • Paolo Giacomini - Chairman of the Jury - Chairman of ArsClassica Association - Classical music video director

  • Malgorzata Maria Petryla - Deputy Chairman of the Jury - Deputy Chairman of ArsClassica Association - Classical music producer

The other components of the Jury are chosen by the Chairman. The Jury members can vary from time to time.

The contestants will be selected and judged based only on the submitted video recordings.

The Jury decisions are final and irrevocable. The competitors have no right to present any objections against the composition and the decisions of the Jury.

4. REPERTOIRE

​

The repertoire requested for the first selection of the competition is free. The performance can be solo or with accompaniment. The duration of the performance should be maximum 40 minutes.

In the subsequent stages of the competition, the contestants will be asked to perform a specific piece:

In the second stage of the competition: 

  • The violinists contestant will be asked to record a solo performance (at least one movement) from Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin (BWV 1001-1006)*

  • The pianists contestants will be asked to record a solo performance chosen from Bach's following works: Well-Tempered Clavier (BWV 846-893), English Suites (BWV 806–811), French Suites (BWV 812–817), Partitas for keyboard (BWV 825–830)*

In the third stage of the competition:

  • The violinists contestant will be asked to record a solo performance of a piece for solo violin to choose from Paganini's 24 Caprices for Solo Violin (one or more) and/or Ysaÿe's Six Sonatas for solo violin, Op. 27 (at least one movement) and/or Paganiniana (Variations) for Violin solo by N. Milstein*

  • The pianists contestants will be asked to record a solo performance of a piece from romantic or contemporary period (XIX or XX century) by following composers: Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Ravel*

The submitted recordings should not exceed the duration of 30 minutes.

The repertoire for the Gala Concert and for the recordings produced by ArsClassica as part of the prize of the Competition is chosen by the winners in agreement with ArsClassica. ArsClassica reserves the right to suggest the repertoire to be recorded.

* The specific pieces of the repertoire presented to the Jury of the competition are chosen freely by the competitors according to the requirements. Is up to the competitors to choose a piece (one movement or more) that fully represents their artistic, technical and expressive potential.

5. VIDEO RECORDINGS

​

The candidates are selected and judged based only on the submitted video recordings. The videos have to be a live recording, possibly without editing, especially for a recording without public. The editing is acceptable only if the submitted video comes from a live concert with public (for example from a competition).

The videos should be recorded no more than 18 months before the date of your submission.

Videos should be available for watching and sharing online.

6. APPLICATION

​

The submission to ArsClassica International Competition is to be done exclusively through the online Application Form .

By participating in ArsClassica International Competition and by accepting its rules, the applicants automatically:

  • disown the right for any material (financial) remuneration regarding eventual publication and distribution of their music and video recordings through Internet or other sources

  • consent the use, publication and sharing of the submitted videos and pictures on ArsClassica and VideoClassica web and social channels

  • consent the publication, streaming or broadcasting of the audio and video recordings or photographs produced by ArsClassica as part of the Prize of the Competition and the Gala Concert and assign the copyright of their performances to ArsClassica

  • accept the Privacy Policy 

7. REGISTRATION FEE

​

The registration fee is 100 € for each participant. The payment of the registration fee must be made via PayPal following the correct completion of the Application Form online or by bank transfer to:

Applications without the payment of the registration fee will not be valid.

The registration fee is not refundable.

By submitting the registration fee, the participants become members of ArsClassica Association for a period of one year.

8. COMPETITION STAGES

​

ArsClassica International Competition is composed by the following stages:

​​

  • STAGE ONE - SELECTION: Maximum 12 best competitors for each instrument will be selected among all the applicants. The selection is based on the video recordings submitted through the Application Form. The names of the competitors and the videos of their performances will be announced and shared on ArsClassica web site and Facebook page within 15th January 2023.

​

  • STAGE TWO - SEMIFINAL: The 12 contestants for each instrument will be asked to record another video of a solo performance to be submitted to the Jury. As the result 6 candidates for each instrument will be selected. The names of the selected candidates and the videos of their performances will be announced and shared on ArsClassica web site and Facebook page within 15th February 2023.

  • STAGE THREE - FINAL: The 6 finalists for each instrument will be asked to record another solo piece. As the result 3 winners for each instrument will be selected by the Jury. The names of the winners and the videos of their performances will be announced and shared on ArsClassica web site and Facebook page within 10th March 2023.

  • WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT: The Jury will assign 3 prizes for each instrument: 1° Prize, 2° Prize and 3° Prize. The announcement of the winners of ArsClassica International Competition will be online on ArsClassica web site and Facebook.

​

  • GALA CONCERT: The winners of ArsClassica International Competition will perform live in a Gala Concert in Rome. The winners of the 1° Prize will perform a solo piece each one and a duo piece together. The winners of the 2° Prize will perform a duo piece together and a short solo piece each one. The winners of the 3° Prize will perform a solo piece each one. The Gala Concert may be recorded and published on ArsClassica and VideoClassica web channels. The date of the Gala Concert will be established in accordance with the winners.

9. PRIZE

​

ArsClassica International Competition assigns 3 prizes for each instrument:

​

  • 1° PRIZE: The winners of the 1° Prize will be awarded with a high quality audio and video recordings of a value of 30.000 €. The winners will record a solo piece each one and a duo piece of their choice. The video and the audio recordings will be published and streamed on ArsClassica and VideoClassica channels. The winners will also perform in a Gala Concert in Rome.

  • 2° PRIZE: The winners of the 2° Prize will perform in the Gala Concert in Rome a duo piece together and a short solo piece each one.

  • 3° PRIZE: The winners of the 3° Prize will perform in the Gala Concert in Rome a solo piece each one.

ArsClassica will provide accommodation for the prize winners during the recordings and the Gala Concert.

ArsClassica do not cover the travel expenses.

The date of the recordings will be established according to the availability of the musicians.

The winners consent the publication and streaming of the audio and video recordings produced by ArsClassica and assign the copyright of their performances to ArsClassica.

ArsClassica reserves the right not to assign the main Prize or one of the Prizes or to postpone the date of the Competition, if the quality standards of the candidates are not met.

10. COPYRIGHT

​

Participants of ArsClassica International Competition transfer free of charge to Associazione ArsClassica their property rights of the artistic performances audio and video recorded as part of the Prize of the competition and the Gala Concert, in the context of:

  • recording

  • marketing

  • online streaming and sharing

  • wireless, cable and satellite broadcasting and re-broadcasting

11. ACCEPTANCE OF RULES AND CONDITIONS

By applying to ArsClassica International Competition, participants automatically accept all the conditions and the regulations of ArsClassica International Competition.
